    Good morning y’all.

Good morning y’all. Cohost has now shut down and so here’s my inaugural “I am now posting here and only here” post.

I’m from the future and I don’t know what cohost is. What happened?

Cohost was a website that ran from 2022 to 2024. It was probably the best social media site ever made, and now it’s gone. Unfortunately, that’s the world we live in now, and so I have to do something new. That something new will be this site! Welcome to Evie On→Line. It’s by me, evie! I live in your computer.

What’s the plans for the future of this site?

Hoo boy do I have a lot planned. First off, the technical stuff:

    • Fix comments
    • Add a like button. Don’t worry, it won’t have numbers
    • Make sure the styles are functional. Everything is currently held together with duct tape and a dream and I have enough CSS knowledge to do better than that.
    • Improve the markup.

Now, the actual content stuff. There’s a lot in the works:

    • Link roundups! I have literally thousands of links saved on different bookmarking services. My goal is to unify them and read them and send the best to all y’all. What’s the point in hoarding links if I won’t be sharing any?
    • App reviews. I think a lot about apps and services in stuff. Too much. I didn’t talk about it on cohost enough and I regret not being more annoying about it. It’s all dumb but it’s dumb stuff I care about a lot!
    • A certain article I gotta work on.
    • General stuff. I have a lot of miscellaneous ideas for things and they’re gonna be posted on here. Ideas are free and I’d be a sucker if I wasn’t taking advantage of that value.
    • Posts! I will never stop posting and I’m gonna make sure that holds true here. I’m planning on adding custom styles to posts with certain tags to intentionally style them in a way that’s similar to cohost posts. The posts will still be bad and they still will be aplenty.

Anyways I guess that’s all. Feel free to leave a comment below and you can always email me at [email protected]. Cohost forever.

Maybe I should start sharing more links

maybe i should start sharing more links. i have like a million links stored across different services that id love to aggregate and go like “here’s some truly great stuff”. just a random thought

Hey, so Flyleaf is actually kinda good?

This is a mini app review, in case you couldn’t tell from the tag that says “app review”.

Flyleaf is a “read it later” app whose main inspiration is Instapaper, an old read later app from 2008 (and probably the first one ever made). But it’s not just based on Instapaper, it’s based on the Instapaper from 2008. With pagination. The dev has stated that his main reason for making it is just that there’s nothing else out there that has Instapaper’s pagination feature, and Instapaper itself doesn’t even support it that well.

A screenshot of an article inside of Flyleaf

I quite like pagination (scrolling hurts my wrist and feels worse to read), so it was a no brainer for me to use. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s cheaper than the read later app I was using before (also, matter is integrating a bunch of ai features that get in the way of the reading part of a read later app. Really sucks but that’s what vc money gets you). I’m still using the old one too for the remaining length of the subscription, but I’m hoping that I won’t have to renew it.

A screenshot of flyleaf that showcases the sidebar

Anyways, here’s a comparison of the pros and cons because my brain is too tired to write a more detailed review.

    Pros

    • Pagination (the big one!)
    • Pretty solid themes (they come second to Matter)
    • Doesn’t just show you the articles from oldest to newest. Instead shows you articles based on certain vibes (short reads, long reads, new, random). Really nice!
    • Multiple ways of organizing stuff
    • Made by an indie dev
    • Local first!

    Cons

    • Made by an indie dev (I haven’t run into parsing issues yet, but I doubt one guy will be able to do a better job than companies like Readwise Reader, Pocket, Instapaper, Matter, etc. But who knows?)
    • Local first (you need to be able to download the article on your phone to read it. you can’t save stuff if you don’t have internet)
    • iOS/macOS only (sorry android people)
    • Has a subscription, although the subscription doesn’t stop you from reading things. It just affects themes and stuff.
    • Idk I think that’s it? I’ll update this if I have more problems I guess
The mobile app in dark mode The same screen as before but with the bottom drawer open, showcasing the remaining time left in the article, as well as some quick actions you can take.

So that’s Flyleaf! Check it out! I’m enjoying it at least!

god i really wish there was an alternative to raindrop for saving images

i like hoarding images i like, and there’s just very few apps and tools i can use to actually do that and it sucks idk. let me hoard images! raindrop is passable but i don’t like that opening them just opens it in the browser and also just raindrop in general idk

the iphone 18 pro banner except i removed everything that isn't exclusive to the new phone

The "bento box" image for the iPhone 18 Pro, listing a number of new advertised features. Many features are scribbled out, or edited. What remains is: Camera control, Photographic styles, Wi-Fi 7, Latest generation ceramic shield, Studio quality mics with audio mix, half of Telephoto on both models (since one of the models already had telephoto in last year's phone), 4k120, A18 Pro, New 48mp Ultrawide, 6.3" and 6.9" screens and 2x faster raytracing. In addition, the claim of "Best iPhone battery life on Pro Max" has a number of question marks surrounding it.
